A woodland bunny with red glasses and a flower crown? Yes, please! I had so much fun designing and making this free bunny hand embroidery pattern for you all, I just might have to design more woodland friends! But for now, let’s just start with this sweet rabbit. 🙂

This, let’s face it, totally adorable bunny hand embroidery pattern came to life because I was searching for free animal embroidery patterns on Pinterest and I just couldn’t find any!
I wallowed in my disappointment for a moment then got to work designing this cutie. And I’m just so thrilled with how it turned out! I really can’t resist anything with a woodland animal design. (So thrilled in fact I designed a fox friend embroideryfor this bunny!)
This floral bunny would be great as Easter decor, or to decorate a nursery or playroom. Honestly, he’s so darn cute you could tuck him on bookshelf year-round!

Materials
7″ Embroidery Hoop. These are my favourite. I can usually find them at Michael’s.
12″x12″ piece of quilting cotton fabric
10″x10″ piece of felt for backing
Selection of embroidery floss
Embroidery scissors and needle
Printed Pattern – make sure to print it at 100% (Get it at the end of this post)
How to Transfer an Embroidery Pattern
First, cut your fabric and felt so that they are approximately 1″ bigger than your hoop.
The easiest way I’ve found for transferring embroidery designs onto fabric is to use a window.
Tape your pattern to the window, then center and tape the fabric on top.
Lightly trace the design with a pencil.
Next, layer the fabric and felt backing together and secure them in the hoop.
In this floral embroidery post I showed another method of finishing the back of the hoop.
But what I typically do is trim down the felt so it’s flush with the hoop, then fold the fabric around and use hot glue to secure it to the inside of the hoop.
Now you’re ready to start stitching!
How to Embroider a Floral Bunny
Always use 2 strands of thread unless otherwise indicated.
Start by using a brown thread and a split stitch for the bunny outline, eyes and mouth.
Use a light pink thread and a split stitch to add the inner ear details.
For the glasses, I opted for a bright red thread. Use 3 strands of thread and backstitch to outline the glasses.
If you wanted to, you could fill in the glasses with a brick stitch. But I decided to leave them hollow.
Adding Embroidered Flowers
Now we add the floral elements. This is fun. You can stitch the florals exactly as they are on the pattern, or you can add your own flair to them! I found that I needed to fill out the green leaves a bit more than the pattern indicates.
First, make the 3 woven roses using 3 strands of thread. I made mine in pink, blue and purple.
Start with the center rose.
If I had a do-over, I would have scootched the outer roses in a little closer to the center rose.
Next, use a green thread to add french knots for the centers of the daisies.
At this point I also went ahead and added the leaves and stems between the roses.
We’ll come back later and fill out the rest of the greenery once the daisies are stitched.
The stems are a simple straight stitch.
Each leaf is 5 satin stitches, starting with the longest stitch in the middle and making smaller stitches on either side to create a leaf shape.
Woodland Animal Embroidery Pattern
Now with a bright yellow thread you can add 6 lazy daisy stitches evenly spaced around each french knot.
It’s ok if the petals from one daisy end up overlapping the petals of the other daisy or if they end up slightly on top of the glasses.
Now you can go back with the green and add more stems and leaves to fill out the floral arrangement.
Here is where I veered slightly from the pattern. Just because of where the daisy petals ended up, I felt I had to switch up the greenery placement to fill out the arrangement better.
Now with a cream thread and 3 tiny straight stitches, add some buds to the ends of the stems.
That’s it! You’re done, and it’s gorgeous!
