Hummingbirds for Kids

Did you know that hummingbirds go through various stages in their lives? These incredible creatures have four main life stages: egg, nestling, fledgling, and adult. Hummingbird eggs are typically the size of a pea and are laid in small nests made by the female bird. After about 15-18 days, the eggs hatch into tiny nestlings. These nestlings are completely featherless and rely on their parents for warmth and food. As they grow, their feathers start to develop, and they become fledglings. Fledglings are the stage where they start exploring the world outside the nest but still depend on their parents for food. It takes about 3 weeks for the fledglings to undergo complete feather development and become an adult hummingbird. Once they reach adulthood, these fascinating birds have vibrant feathers and are capable of flying long distances. The life stages of a hummingbird are truly remarkable, highlighting their resilience and transformation.
