Hellooooo UAD Forum!!!

I'm sure many of you are wondering what the status is for "Lion" support for their UAD products. At the time of this post UAD Powered Plug-Ins are not currently supported under Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion." Support for this new operating system is actively being developed for a future UAD software update however. I don't have a specific release date for this update at this time but any announcements will be posted on the UAD website.

Stay tuned for more information...

Same 'UAD' time...
Same 'UAD' channel...

( you gotta love those old 'Adam West' Batman episodes... )

If anyone has any questions or concerns about this please feel free to contact me directly.

what does not support mean - that UAD plugins completly doesn't work in Lion ?

Any time-frame when an update can be expected?

Dan: I would be great if you'd post to this thread when Lion has been cleared for use with the UAD2 and plug-ins. Or, UA notifies its registered users via email when this work and testing is complete.

Thanks very much!

The way I read it it is not being tested but developed. So it will take a new version of the uad software.

Agreed. That's why I stated: "work and testing."

For the record I missed the warning and installed Lion. Apart from a popup box that says I am not allowed to save changes in the control panel everything works like it should.
So why did I upgrade right away. I will be starting a new long running project in the studio tomorrow and was afraid to get stuck with Snow Leopard (which could be a problem if Logic 10 suddenly pops up). I figured that Apple wouldn't send anything out that didn't work with Logic and since it's basically an audio project we could get by just fine on native plugins for the first couple of months in case 3rdware stuff didn't work.
Anyway everything works and I have experienced no problems during the first week. I have not been working that much on it though, probably 10-15 hours, but after tomorrow I will find out if there are any issues that can be considered serious.

Will do Ton!

When I have any specific info on Lion support updates I'll post the information asap to let everybody know. I realize everyone is very curious about the updates and we really appreciate your patience...

I have emails in my inbox from Focusrite and Novation too, it seems Apple screwed everybody's pooch on this one. Most of the Saffire line, Automap, PT, UAD, etc etc.

Thanks for the heads up on the saffire card incompatibility. Wasn't going to upgrade my OSX anytime soon, but now I know what to look for.

Apple always pulls stunts like this.. I bet most of the older native plugs stopped working as well... They just love torturing the developers. One friend of mine who codes plugins stopped supporting AU because of similar BS..

I thought the point of having a format like AU is so its always compatible to that standard. So isn't it apples fault if AU's stop working, that they fundamentally changed everything?

I still use vst's now and again that are 10+ year old that I used back in in win98.

You know, I might just buy the "Apple pulls this on everyone" argument, except that Metric HALO works great, and Steinberg's MR816 has new drivers ready... IMHO, it really adds to Metric HALOs image of professionalism that they were Lion-ready before Lion was released.

Yes, Developer Betas have been available for quite some time prior to the release, so it can't have come as a complete surprise to the developers... However, it's still within a week of the release and I guess some wanted to test with the final public version before updating their software.

MOTU just released a Lion compatible version of Digital Performer (DP 7.24) so now the last software that keeps me from going Lion on my studio Mac Pro is UAD.

I really hope UA will release a 5.9.1 as soon as they've made it work with Lion and don't wait til they are ready to release their next scheduled update (which usually coincide with new plug-ins)...

Well, probably for pure hardware drivers it is more easy to get ready for a system update. But with plugins and software, there lots of other components, and most likely you beta testers are not developers and therefore have no beta version of the OS on their systems.

How can UAD say they are compatible to OSX Lion if lots of sequencers are not yet available for it - for a plugin extension that does not make sense.

With audio cards you mainly interact with the OS - and the DAW on the other side as well. So, seems less interdependent with other software.

just my thoughts

This seems to be one of the major issues with Lion. Different ressources (manufacturers, developers) have reported that CoreAudio now restricts access to audio interfaces strongly over it's framework only, something that was handled more or less relaxed in SnowLeo and before. That could be the reason why DAWs like ProTools, Cubase and Ableton are having problems now, including the fact that the speed of update cycles was tighten by Apple. In addition the AudioUnit specification/declaration was seriously modified.

Logic seems to be a "winner" at the moment - another effective way to kick the competitors, known as the "Apple way"...

I don't really understand the rush to upgrade one's OSX.. If history repeats itself, it will be almost a year before you can realistically upgrade to Lion.. Had it happen to me with 10.5 and 10.6 . Is there some really killer must-have feature in 10.7 that I'm not aware of?

If being an apple fanboi has taught me something, it's definately "don't be an early adopter". YMMV of course...

Well for those waiting for new units to pick em up its not allot of choice on waiting since the new hardware comes with lion. Not that the new mac pro's are out yet but if they come out in a few weeks like some suggesting I can see a fair amount of studios and people wanting to pick them up. I know if I had the cash id pick one up the day they come on sale.

That so? Well then I guess it's understandable.. Here's hoping the new machines will be specced nicely!
