Alfonso E. Dockery Jr. affectionately known as “Doc” was a wonderful and caring person, loving son and awesome brother. Alfonso loved everyone and when he saw you he greeted with a warm smile.

He was the oldest of three children and grew up in North Chicago, IL. Alfonso was born March 24, 1953 to the union of his parents Alfonso E. Sr. and Marian Dockery in Chicago, IL. He left his earthly tabernacle on December 17, 2021 bound for glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

His Relationship With Our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ – As a young boy, bedtime stories were read to Alfonso and his sibling by his Mother from the bible. This was the seed sow in him about the Lord. Throughout the years he attended various churches and later in life he decided to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was baptized on December 12, 1999 by the late Pastor Theophilus M. Carroll of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Gurnee, IL.

Education & Occupations– He attended Ray Elementary School, Chicago, IL up to the third grade. While at Ray School he learned to speak French in a school musical play. In 1961, when the family moved to Racine Wisconsin, he attended Winslow Elementary school where he was the Captain of the sixth grade crossing guards and on the softball team. In 1966 his family moved to North Chicago, IL where he attend North Elementary School and then went to and graduated from North Chicago Community High School in 1971. Alfonso was a member of the high school drama club, and a Football letterman. After graduating high school he attended the College of Lake County for two years where he pursued a degree in Psychology. While attending the College of Lake County, he also started pursuing broadcasting and voice-over as “Cosmic Man” for the CLC radio station. In the 70’s, Alfonso was a counselor at Arden Shores Children and Family Services. He had a passion and heart for helping at-risk youth and the homeless. He also worked as a land surveyor for seven years. When he retired at 62, he enjoyed working for Pope’s Florist delivering flowers with a smile on various occasions.

The Actor, Entertainer and Entrepreneur - Alfonso had a love for music of all genres. He was a professional disc jockey and established his DJ business the “DJ Zone in the late 70’s. He also loved acting and being an entertainer. In 1985 Alfonso had role in a scene from the ABC Lady Blue TV series which was filmed in Chicago, IL. For over 40 years “Doc” DJ’d and performed at numerous corporate, private and social events throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. Also, in the early ‘80’s he was a dancer for “Doc and the Bad Boys tour group”

Alfonso was quite an entrepreneur. In 1993 Alfonso establish his limousine business the DJ Zone Limo Service. In 2006 he founded the “Gallery on Genesee” art studio which was one of the first minority owned art galleries in Waukegan. From 2003 to 2008 he also worked with his sister’s company’s Meeting Essentials By D’esign and helped secure a 5 year contract with NBC Channel 5 as their sound technician for the various NBC5 downtown and neighborhood events that aired live on Channel 5. Everyone that knew “Doc” knew that he loved to play his harmonica and sing. If there was a band performing he’d join in and play an awesome blue’s tune. He was a one-man-band entertainer.

Community Service – Alfonso was one who loved to help those in need. Throughout the years, “Doc” worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and was a member of the Lions of Illinois. On June 9, 2004 he was presented an award from the Lions of Illinois Foundation Fellow for his ongoing assist and dedication to helping those in need.

Health Conscious – Alfonso believed in eating healthy and working out regularly. He had a membership with the Waukegan Field House and worked out regularly with his weights and ran on occasion. Juicing fruits and vegetables were a daily routine for him.

Alfonso was preceded death by his parents Alfonso E. Sr. and Marian Dockery. Left to cherish his memory: two sisters Cynthia (Vincent) Harris of Waukegan, IL; Angela Dockery of North Chicago, IL; one Super Special Uncle - Charles Brown of Chicago, IL; two aunts Loraine Dunwoody of Greer, South Carolina, Selena McNear of Waycross, Georgia; special friends Armand Ciabattari, Sergio Milanes, Billy Thompson, Maceo, “C” Siamanto, Richard Bradshaw, Ronnie Day and a host of relatives and friends near and far.

Alfonso “Doc” will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who loved him. A Celebration of His Life Memorial Service will be Held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Bradshaw & Range Funeral Home, 2513 W. Dugdale Road, Waukegan, IL.
